On 15 May 2026, Coventry University Kazakhstan welcomed Professor Rod A. Wing at its Astana campus. The visit was recommended by the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sayasat Nurbek, recognising Coventry University Kazakhstan as a leading example of successful international education in the country.

Professor Rod A. Wing — Regents Professor at the University of Arizona, Director of the Arizona Genomics Institute, and Professor at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) — met with university management to discuss the adoption of artificial intelligence in food security and opportunities to improve crop yields in Kazakhstan.

The meeting explored potential collaboration in genomics, AI-driven agriculture, and research projects aimed at addressing national food security challenges. Further talks and joint initiatives are planned during Professor Wing’s next visit to Kazakhstan.
