A University for a New Generation: What Coventry University Kazakhstan Is Building in Astana
Construction of the new Coventry University Kazakhstan campus has begun in Astana. Spanning more than 35,000 square metres, the new campus will create a modern ecosystem integrating education, research, emerging technologies and entrepreneurship, the university announced.
According to the university, once completed, the campus will become the largest British university campus in Central Asia.
“We have laid a time capsule to mark the beginning of construction of our new campus in Astana. This is an important step in the long-term development of the university and is aligned with Primus Capital’s strategy to expand access to high-quality British education in Kazakhstan,” said Miras Daulenov, President of Coventry University Kazakhstan.
From Education to Research and Technology
According to university representatives, the new campus will mark the next stage in the development of the university environment, with its concept designed around the changing nature of education itself.
The campus will prepare the next generation of professionals, conduct applied research and develop technological solutions in collaboration with businesses. Students will have the opportunity to work on real-world business challenges while studying and develop innovative projects.
Particular attention will be given to artificial intelligence and its application across different sectors of the economy. At the same time, the university explained that technology is not viewed as a standalone field of study, but rather as a tool that is increasingly integrated into manufacturing and industry, finance, business, design and other areas.
Students will study on Coventry University programmes delivered with the involvement of international academics with extensive professional experience in the United Kingdom.
From the First Campus to a Growing Campus Network
According to the university, Coventry University Kazakhstan has been operating in Astana since 2024 and became the first licensed campus of a British university in the capital. Today, more than 850 students study at the campus, supported by more than 40 international academics.
In September 2026, a second campus opened in Almaty, expanding the portfolio of academic programmes with new areas in future-focused engineering, art and design. As a result, Coventry University Group became the first British university to establish two campuses in the same country, the university emphasised.
“The new campus in Astana is another step towards becoming a global education group. Students at the new campus will study in an environment that meets the highest modern standards, alongside the 30,000 other students around the world studying on Coventry University programmes,” said John Latham, Vice-Chancellor of Coventry University and a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
As noted by Coventry University, the development of the Astana and Almaty campuses reflects the university’s broader strategy in Kazakhstan: moving from providing high-quality British education towards creating an environment where education is directly connected with research, technology and the needs of the economy.
