On April 4, 2026, Coventry University Kazakhstan will host the Phoenix Chess Tournament 2026 in Astana. The tournament is organized in partnership with the Kazakhstan Chess Federation and is open to Grade 11–12 school students and final-year college students graduating in 2026.

Tournament Format

• 9 rounds, Swiss system

• Time control: 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move

• Conducted according to FIDE rules

• Swiss Manager software will be used

Grand Prize

The overall winner will receive a study grant at Coventry University Kazakhstan.

The grant will be awarded upon submission of:

• IELTS 6.0 overall (minimum 5.5 in each component for Undergraduate)

• IELTS 5.0 overall (minimum 4.5 in each component for Foundation)
  or an equivalent TOEFL score by August 20, 2026.

If the requirements are not met, the grant will be transferred to the next eligible participant.

Eligibility

• Grade 11–12 school students

• 3rd–4th year college students

• Graduating in 2026

Required Documents

• Official letter from school/college confirming grade/year (signed and stamped)

• Copy of ID or birth certificate

Pre-registration is mandatory until April 1, 2026, 12:00 (Astana time).
